“Now Is The Time” to reach out to make a connection, or check back in with, your local Congressional Representatives office and inform them on what their community and constituents are doing to educate and support local mom’s around Postpartum Depression [PPD].
Steps to take to set up a meeting with your local Congressional Representative and/or office:
1. Identify who your federal Congressional Representative is by entering your zip code into the search bar on the US House of Representatives website OR identify who your federal Senator’s are by choosing your State on the US Senate website.
◦ Click on the name of your Congressional Representative and/or Senator(s) to be directed to their individual website.
◦ Find CONTACT info on page to identify the local office address and phone number of your Congressional Representative and/or Senator.
2. Call the local office phone number listed. (Visit our Advocacy Phone Call Template for more detailed information)
◦ Identify your name, organization/company and town you live in.
◦ State that you are/your group is interested in meeting with your Congressional Representative and/or Senator to discuss Maternal Mental Health/Postpartum Depression [PPD] education, resources and support for local mom’s and families.
◦ If the Congressional Representative and/or Senator is unavailable to meet, ask for whom is available in the local office to meet with.
▪ FYI: There is always a caseworker in local offices who either do a catch all of constituent cases or is responsible for Health and Wellness, Family and community issues
- Get the name, phone number and email address of the point of contact [POC] in the local office who you should work with
- Speak with the POC to set up a meeting OR
- Leave a message with the POC to set up a meeting OR
- Email the POC to set up a meeting
